The Schuylkill Transportation System

Schuylkill Transportation System offers shared ride van services under several funded programs that are available to many Schuylkill County residents. The most commonly known program is the Shared Ride Program for Senior Citizens, which is sponsored by the PennDOT Lottery Program and subsidized by the Schuylkill County Office of Senior Services. All senior citizens who are 65 years of age or older regardless of income are eligible to use this service. For a small co-pay of $1.00 per one way trip, seniors can travel to the following destinations: any type of medical appointments, social services agencies, local grocery shopping, senior resource centers, and adult day care centers. Transportation to other destinations such as the hairdresser, barbershop, retail shops, malls and restaurants cost $1.95 to $2.10 per one-way trip.

The Schuylkill Transportation System encourages persons who are age 65 years or older to register and obtain a Commonwealth ID Card for use as a boarding pass. The following documents may be used as Proof of Age:
Birth or Baptismal Certificate; Photo driver's license; PA Identification Card; Passport & Naturalization Papers; Armed Forces Separation (DD-214); Statement of age from U.S. Social Security Administration; Veteran's Universal Access Identification Card; Alien Resident Card; P.A.C.E. Card.

Senior Citizens can register for transportation services at the following Senior Resource Centers:
Tremont, Minersville, Schuylkill Haven, Pottsville, Shenandoah and the Schuylkill Regional Resource Center located in Mahanoy City.

You can also contact The Office of Senior Services at 1-800-832-3313 or call STS at 1-800-832-3322. This program is subsidized by the Pennsylvania State Lottery.

Another shared ride program includes the Rural Transportation for Persons with Disabilities Program. This program, which is also sponsored by PennDOT, provides shared ride service to any disabled resident of Schuylkill County between the ages of eighteen (18) and sixty-four (64) regardless of income. A minimum co-pay of $1.95 to $2.10 per one way trip is collected upon boarding the van.

Transportation for senior citizens or persons with disabilities group trips is also available through STS. Please contact S.T.S. at 570-429-2701 or 800-832-3322.

Call STS at 429-2701 or 800-832-3322 and register today for the senior citizen or persons with disabilities transportation programs. It is that easy!
