Help For Seniors

As we age, life can bring us many difficult situations, including financial, medical, personal, social, and much more. Sometimes people don't know where to turn or just need a little extra support.

Spectrum Senior Consultants, Inc. is a company that was created to address these needs for seniors and their loved ones in our area. Often people are not aware of what services are available or where to turn to get the appropriate information. This company acts as a clearinghouse for seniors.

The mission of Spectrum is to enrich the lives of senior citizens through information and referrals, entertainment, personal management, and support. The company teams with seniors, caregivers, and their families to make educated choices and to help people fifty five or older live meaningful, productive lives. Spectrum also advocates for healthy lifestyles through business partnership and education.

Spectrum meets with clients to identify their needs. Then they gather information so that people are confident that they've made the best decisions for themselves. Spectrum works with organizations to ensure that they understand the needs and concerns of their clients. They can also set up, and even attend appointments for clients to learn about the different companies and facilities for their needs.

According to president Kimberly S. Noel, the focus is on the many challenges facing seniors today including health care, health, financial, social, legal, leisure, personal care, and much more. Maybe a senior needs a little support with check book management, finances, or basic personal management. They may need help applying for Medicaid or Veteran's Benefits and other resources available for seniors. Maybe they just need to understand an invoice they received. They may not even know they are eligible for various benefits and discounts.

If a client needs specialty support, such as legal, financial, or medical advice, Spectrum will get the information needed so that the client can make a good decision about who to work with to resolve their issues. However, Noel stated, Spectrum and its representatives will not make decisions for their clients.

Sometimes seniors need a responsible party or Power of Attorney. Spectrum is available to provide those services.

Noel has teamed up with Good News Consulting, Inc., a professional guardianship agency. Previously, there were very limited guardianship opportunities available locally. Noel explained, “Working in nursing homes for many years, I've seen such a need for a local guardianship services. Because of the seriousness of guardianship situations, I am working with Good News Consulting, Inc, bringing ten years of experience and quality care to Schuylkill, Luzerne, and Carbon County and the surrounding areas.

Spectrum is in the process of organizing a club for people fifty five and older. This club features fun and educational events, social opportunities, and so much more. Club members will receive a free quarterly magazine sent to their home. They will also receive a free one-hour consultation with Spectrum. They are looking for volunteers to help organize club events and activities.

Spectrum has a quarterly magazine and website so that seniors and their families can easily access information and learn about issues important to them. Each also features a business to business section. This will give participating businesses the opportunity to enhance their services to seniors. The website is www.spectrumseniorconsultants.com.

Spectrum was created in 2007 by Noel, who saw a need for seniors in this area to get support and information. It is her passion to this age group that made this company possible. She works with many professionals in the field to ensure that Spectrum is truly serving its purpose. Some of these professionals include representatives from the Office of Senior Services, legal and financial advisors, medical and senior behavioral health staff, and many other caring professionals.

Noel worked in retail marketing for eight years, then in 2000 began working in healthcare. Her roles included marketing and admissions for several nursing homes and an assisted living facility. She also worked in a nursing home specializing in dementia care. She serves on various committees including the SeniorCORPS RSVP Advisory Council, TRIAD SALT Council, the Northeast Geriatric Services Network and the Senior Mental Health Task Force. As a black belt martial artist, she volunteers her time giving self protection presentations to various senior groups. She also does level of care presentations.

"Throughout my years in long term care, I have noticed that seniors and their loved ones often face very overwhelming challenges. They want to make wise choices, but they are not sure what is available to them or where to go for answers. Often they aren't even given the time they need to do adequate research," Noel stated. "Working with very dedicated geriatric professionals, we came up with Spectrum to address the wide range of needs for seniors and their caregivers." she added. She lives in the Lewistown Valley with her husband, two horses, dog, and cat.
