Healthy Eating--Staying Young

 

If there was a way that you could eat that would reduce your chances of getting a chronic debilitating disease, would you do it? Of course you would.

Well, actually there is such a way of eating. Researchers have found out over the past several years that many chronic diseases such as arthritis, heart disease, stroke, diabetes and even some cancers, all have a common denominator: inflammation.  

Individuals with a high level of inflammation in their internal environment tend to suffer from these chronic diseases at a much higher incidence rate than those who have a lower level of inflammation. All you have to do is eat the right foods and you’ll have a much less chance of acquiring these diseases. 

So, what are these foods you ask? Well, start by doing what your mother always told you. Eat your fruits and vegetables. Let that be the basis of your diet. To that add lots of fish, lean meats and healthy nuts such as walnuts, cashews, almonds and pecans. All these foods have anti-inflammatory properties in them.  

Foods you should avoid include whole grains which come in various forms such as: cereals, breads, and pastas. You should also avoid dairy and legumes. Legumes would include beans and peanuts. While the foods to avoid certainly do have some nutritional benefit, they are also pro-inflammatory in nature. Remember, if your body has too much inflammation, you’re more susceptible to disease. So the idea is to keep the foods that cause inflammation to a minimum in your diet. 

It’s really as simple as that. Don’t believe me, give it a try for 6 weeks and see how your energy level increases and your weight decreases. You’ll also have less aches and pains than you are used to having. What have you got to lose except pain, lack of energy and a few extra pounds?
